ART
My intention is to elevate the way I value art, beyond the metric of whether it’s “good” or not. “Good” is one of the least interesting and most obstructive things we can ask of creativity. Much more meaningful measures are: Did it make me feel alive? Did it bring me all the way into the present moment? Did it ask something real of me? Did it challenge or scare me? Did it rearrange something inside me? Did it crack me open? Did it set something free?
Art is a means of connecting with the soul. Art is activation of primal life-force surging through the body and out the hands. Art is channeling. Art is a shower of purification, washing you clean of your self. Art is a restoration of aliveness. Art is a rebellion against perfection and performance. Art is nakedness. Art is the sensation of inspiration moving through the body, rather than the mind controlling outcomes. Art is a living devotion to how things feel over how things look. Art is erotic. Art is innocence and playfulness. Art is truth. Art is letting go. Art is liberation.
We have to get beyond the fear of failure, uncertainty, and imperfection. We have to get beyond fear itself, because it’s a disease that eats away at our aliveness from the inside. Courage, surrender, and following our instinct with wild abandon are what set our creativity free. And that creativity is the force that births our greatest dreams into reality.
